How To Measure for your Fairing
Measuring Instructions
If you are looking to create a tapered fairing, please contact CFC at info@cofairingco.com as we don't yet offer that option on site. If you know what your taper is going to be, you can figure out the cost by choosing the larger measurement and height as the fairing option. Example: 55" x 15" fairing tapering to 67" at the top — you would select custom fairings, 67" x 15" to calculate cost. If you do order this way, please make sure to add customer notes to your order specifying the tapered option so you don't receive the wrong fairing shape and size. We are currently working on adding a tapered option to our website.
How to Measure for your Small, Medium, and Large Fairing
Where to Measure
Measure in between your roof rack rails to get the width of the fairing needed. If your vehicle doesn't have side rails, measure in between your roof rain gutters.
Large & Medium
Large fairings will fit on vehicles without side rails or between rails 43" or wider. These fairings are not a good fit for larger trucks, vans, or RVs.
Medium fairings will fit on vehicles without side rails or between rails 35" or wider.
Small
Small fairings will fit on vehicles without side rails or between rails 34" or wider. This size fairing is good for small vehicles.
How to Measure for your Van with Roof Rack or Crossbar
Step 1 – Measure the Width: Measure the total width of your roof rack or crossbar from outside edge to outside edge. Also measure from the roof just inside the rain gutter straight up to the deck of the roof rack, first bar, or top of crossbar. This measurement will help us determine where the mounting holes on the fairing will be.
Measure the width of your roof from the outside edge of the rain gutter to the outside edge of the rain gutter.
In most cases a reverse smile shape will work to hug the crown of the roof, but a smile shape or straight bottom may be needed. Please ask a CFC representative for assistance if you have questions.
Step 2 – Measure the Height: Our brackets are pre-bent on a 45-degree angle, so measure from the tallest point (generally the front corner of a roof rack, crossbar, or solar panel) down to the roof on a 45-degree angle.
The height of the fairing will depend on how much room you have between the front of the rack and the windshield. If you are limited on space, measure from the right or left front corner of your rack along the roof and rain gutter to the windshield.
Step 3 – Note Your Mounting Style: Identify whether your rack uses clamp-on, bolt-on, or T-track. This affects which mounting hardware kit you'll need. The fairing will come with standard mounting brackets and bolts. T-track hardware and additional mounting parts are not included and must be added to your order if needed.
Step 4 – Double-Check Your Measurement: Re-measure to confirm accuracy. Even a small error can affect fit. When in between sizes, size up.
Tips: Use a speed square and tape measure, and take photos of your rack setup from the front and side for reference when emailing a CFC representative to confirm the size and shape. It's better to be a little taller than too short!
How to Measure for your Truck and Slide-In Camper & RTT
Step 1 – Measure the Width: Measure the front width of your camper. Measure from the roof just inside the rain gutter straight up to the bottom of the camper, the top of the camper, and if you have T-track on the front of your camper, measure to the middle of the track. This measurement will help us determine where the mounting holes on the fairing will be.
